The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
