From Praise to Fury: Right-wing Reaction to Jeffrey Epstein File Release is Divided.

Right-leaning reactions to the partial release of documents related to the Epstein case have been mixed, with certain supporters of the previous administration pointing out the noticeable appearance of former President Clinton and additional Democrats in photographs, while others expressed frustration over how heavy censorship portray former President Trump and Republicans in a unfavorable manner.

Justice Department Justifies Censorship with Strong Hyperbole

Justice Department officials defended the heavily censored sections with fervent exaggerated language. “At no point in American the nation's history has a Commander-in-Chief or the Department of Justice been so open with the public about such a delicate law enforcement issue,” declared Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who issued a six-page memo outlining the censorship process.

Concerns Raised by Blacked-Out Sections

While Trump's identity and image appear in portions of the materials, the widespread redactions raise serious questions about the information may be hidden behind them. A number of Republicans immediately demanded greater openness.

“People are raging and walking away,” wrote Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Via a social media post, GOP Kentucky Thomas Massie asserted the censorship violate the law, and suggested that a subsequent legislature may move to impeach the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, for that offense. “Regrettably, this document release egregiously fails to adhere to both the intent and the wording of the act,” he continued.

A Faction of Rightwing Figures Swing Behind the Disclosure

However, some conservative commentators and former President allies came out strongly in support of the administration.

The release—originating from a justice department led by close Trump associate Pam Bondi—contains scores of pages that are completely censored, and many of the men depicted in photographs have their identities blacked out.

Yet some do not, including prominent individuals like Clinton, entertainer Michael Jackson, and academic Noam Chomsky. The inclusion of Clinton, especially, enabled certain conservative figures to launch the offensive.

“This is pretty rich how the political left wrongly claimed Donald Trump of associating with a pedophile, only for the Trump DOJ to release documents that show Bill Clinton swimming nude with a pedophile,” wrote right-wing activist Laura Loomer.

“New Epstein Files reveal Bill Clinton shirtless in a jacuzzi with a woman that is other than his spouse Hillary Clinton,” wrote attorney Rogan O’Handley. “There is only 1 reason Epstein would photograph a US President with a girl in a hot tub: Blackmail.”

Former President Spokesperson Issues Response

Clinton has consistently said he was aware of zero criminal activity by Epstein and has not been alleged to have participated in any misconduct. “The White House has not been concealing those documents for an extended period only to release them at the last minute on a weekend to protect Bill Clinton,” Clinton’s representative Angel Ureña said in a statement.

“This is about protecting themselves from future revelations, or from what they will try and conceal forever. So they can publicize as many grainy decades-old photographs as they desire, but it isn’t about Bill Clinton. Not previously, never will be,” the statement concluded.

Overall Conservative Commentary Remains Subdued

Nonetheless, broader comment on the right was relatively muted following the disclosure, especially when juxtaposed against the vociferous demands for action that came before the congressional vote to enact a law mandating the files' release.

Loomer, who not long ago secured press credentials at the Defense Department, had been one of the loudest proponents for a full release. Earlier this year, she criticized the administration generally and Bondi in particular after a set of rightwing influencers were given hard-copy binders of files that included little new information.
